Professor Gerald Robotnik is a scientist and late grandfather of Dr. Eggman and Maria Robotnik
History
Gerald's reputation as the world's greatest scientist led him to becoming the lead scientist for Project: Shadow. However, Gerald could not finish the project on his own, so he contacted the Black Comet and made a deal with the leader of the Black Arms, Black Doom. Doom used his blood to create Shadow the Hedgehog, when Gerald found out their true intentions and developed the Eclipse Cannon. He also made a video of this, which Shadow would later find and use to recover his past and origin, to destroy the Black Comet. Gerald's main reason for being co-operative with Project Shadow is to find a cure for the NIDS, which Maria was victim to. It was going well until G.U.N. came. Maria was killed by Heavy Dog's pilot while helping Shadow escape from them, which drove Gerald insane. He then made the Eclipse Cannon ready to fall and crash into the Earth when all seven Chaos Emeralds were implanted in it. He also made Shadow able to carry out these orders without question and left his diary as the item that would convince Eggman to release Shadow, if someone happens to find it.
Creations
Space Colony ARK
The ARK is Gerald's reasearch center, where he created his experiments.
Biolizard
The Biolizard was the prototype of the Ultimate Life Form, but it needed to life support and was sealed away at the Cannon's Core. It was the main reason the colony was shut down.
Shadow the Hedgehog
Shadow the Hedgehog was Gerald's greastest and first successful creation. He was designed to be able to use Chaos Control with just on Chaos Emerald and transform into Super Shadow.
Eclipse Cannon
The Eclipse Cannon was Gerald's ultimate weapon, implanted on the ARK to destroy the Black Comet. However, after he want insane and sunk into grief and madness, he made it so it would crash into the Earth as a megabomb when all the Chaos Emeralds were implanted in it.

Relationships
Maria Robotnik
Maria was Gerald's granddaughter and his main reason for taking part in Project Shadow. He went insane after he death, only thinking how to avenge her.
Black Doom
At first, Doom and Gerald worked together to develop Shadow, but once Gerald learned what Black Doom was really up to, he developed the Eclipse Cannon to destroy the Black Comet without telling Black Doom.
